Celebrating the life of
George R. Remeta
June 14, 1949 - March 26, 2009
George R. Remeta
George R. Remeta 59 of Oakland, New Jersey passed away peacefully on March 26, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Johanna Burke Remeta for 41 years and devoted father of John, Richard, Nickole and Karin Marie as well as son-in-law, Robert Bello, and daughter-in-law, Michelle Remeta. Loving grandfather of Kaya, Tyler, Jayden and his many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his mother, Hazel Remeta, of Pooler, GA, brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Jenann Remeta of Tybee Island, GA, Uncle Harold and Adelle Hamilton of St. Mary's, GA.
Born in Seattle, Washington, he was raised by his parents George and Hazel on Tybee Island, Georgia. After graduating from Georgia Southern University, he began his successful business career at The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc. as a first line accountant and continued on to become a Vice President of MIS at the age of 27. He continued his career with The Limited, Inc. which evolved into a long and successful partnership with United Retail Group, Inc. where he served as Vice Chairman and Chief Administrative Officer. Through these numerous business achievements he developed many close inter-personal relationships throughout the world. To those of us who watched his extremely successful rise in business, it seemed as though there was nothing at which he could not succeed, but regardless of his acclaim in the business world, to his family and many friends at home, he was simply known as "Big G".
We will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Islands Chapel on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
A Graveside Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009 in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family and friends will meet at Fox & Weeks, Islands Chapel at 10:00 a.m. and process to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan -Kettering Cancer Center.

George and I were Fraternity brothers and roomates at Ga. Southern. I spent time at his home with his family on Tybee where he tried to teach me to surf and shark fish. He had great patience with me as I conquered neither very well. As my room mate we spent many hours together studying and playing. My time with him has made me a better person. We have kept in touch over the past 41 years and my memories of him are vivid. Intelligent, fun loving, giving, devoted to Johanna and family and always positive. I will miss our conversations as he always was a step ahead with his vision of the world. His style is one to be patterned for those that expect to excel.
